The NI Museums Council was established in 1993 to support local museums in Northern Ireland in maintaining and improving their standards of collections, care and service to the public.
They worked with our team to undertake a thorough identity review, which would then inform a brand strategy and lead to the development of a wholly transformed visual identity. Our goal was a total brand transformation, setting the team up for the next 30 years, with a clear and robust strategy and powerful visual language. This would, in turn, help bring about organisation-wide alignment.
The new brand expresses the theme ‘Stronger Together’. Every member museum will be stronger when support, standards and knowledge are shared. And the programmes they support drive transformation, engage audiences and encourage sustainable spaces.

The logo represents a Council (a ‘C’) which is made up of lots of individual Museums (‘M’). It is a dynamic and impactful symbol which, when coupled with a vibrant palette of warm colours, portrays a modern, forward-thinking organisation.
The NI Museums Council has a duty to communicate with stakeholders to inform them about the council’s work and provide access to information relevant to organisational functions aligned with the UK Museum Accreditation Scheme.
Their legacy website was over ten years old and had been so hard to edit in-house it meant that it was not being used effectively. There were hundreds of outdated pages still showing up on Google listings, and their most visited page was for an event over eight years ago.
Our brief was to create a communications platform that would effectively promote the new brand strategy & personality and provide up-to-date information through a simple navigation structure. Additionally, it would promote upcoming events and opportunities to members and help direct the general public to their museum websites.
As a small public sector organisation, being new to website development projects, we relied heavily on the team at Bag of Bees for their insight and expertise. We found the entire team to be enthusiastic, responsive and we were particularly impressed by their creative approach to the project.
