We transformed the brand identity of The PILS Project, helping address perception and communications challenges for an organisation fighting to change the world.
Public Interest Litigation (PIL) means legal cases that produce positive results for all of us, not just one of us. As an organisation, The PILS Project support legal challenges that protect human rights and could make life better for many people across Northern Ireland.
We worked with their passionate and busy small team to deliver a refreshed brand identity marking their 10th anniversary and setting them up for the next 10 years. Our primary objective was to learn about the project’s goals and how their work has already impacted real life. We could then tell this story clearly and concisely to members of the general public with no legal expertise, as well as looking fresh, modern and memorable.

Public Interest Litigation means legal action that is taken on a human rights or equality issue of broad public concern.
In the new brand, two triangles fit together to create a timeline showing the life cycle of a public interest legal issue. PILS can help bring issues that were previously below the radar (the red triangle) out into the open (the green one).

PILS needed a new website which could be used by their small team to do a lot of very different things quickly and easily. They needed to display the casework and Pro bono matters their members have been a part of for over ten years and on into the future; they also needed to raise public awareness of what PIL is as a concept and facilitate outreach to build membership; another critical part was the transparent display of their team, membership process and funding.
We built them a custom WordPress site with bespoke content features, which are all fully controlled by their team through the CMS. Their organisation is not image-led, so our site needed to use a clear typographic structure and tight navigation to keep pages of reports looking both exciting and inviting.

Bag of Bees has completely rejuvenated our organisation’s visual identity.
“Starting with our logo and branding in 2019, Barrie, David and Lewis found a creative, clear way to explain why our public interest litigation work really matters.
For a small human rights organisation like The PILS Project, an entire website redesign is an exciting – but substantial – task. The Bag of Bees team took the time to understand our needs and created a site that not only looks good, but signposts visitors to the vital information they need.
If you are looking for an agency that cares about your mission, has creativity in bucket-loads and can translate technical terms into plain English, you’ve found it in Bag of Bees.”
